UTEP goes green

UTEP has been implementing green initiatives into everyday business processes. These initiatives provide cost-savings, eliminate waste, and promote sustainability. Simple practices can have a large affect on environmental stewardship. The Business Affairs Office has been working to eliminate paper waste and expedite processes by converting manual processes into electronic or online systems. The following are examples of program that have been implemented:

  • The General Accounting Office implemented a desktop system to convert checks, drafts, money orders, and other financial instruments into an electronic facsimile to eliminate paper and expedite the process.
  • The Purchasing Office implemented an online Point Plus module for purchase orders that has reduced paper usage and manual filing.
  • The Student Business Services.
  • An electronic “Student Notice of Award” process to notify employees of student awards was launched in more than 40 campus departments.
  • Financial Services successfully transitioned operational performance measures to an online monthly publication.
  • The Payroll Office eliminated the dispersal of paper checks by increases participation in the direct deposit program and incorporating a pay-card program for individuals not enrolled in direct deposit.
